On September 4, 2013, my world changed. I received a call from my neurologist. He confirmed that after rounds of imaging and tests, I had multiple sclerosis. The following weeks were a blur as I processed the information and what it could mean for my life.
In full transparency, I gave myself a pity party.
Then, I decided I was going to do everything in my power to live the fullest life possible, whatever that may look like.
Life has changed a lot in 13 years. I also survived emergency open heart surgery for an aortic dissection. I watched my mom battle and pass away from a glioblastoma. When I say my mortality motivation is high, it’s not from reading a book, listening to a podcast, or scrolling past a motivational quote on Instagram. It’s from experience and seeing deeply that life is short and we only ever have the present moment.
My former self would not recognize the person I am today.
I’ve been through separation and divorce. I navigated co-parenting. I changed jobs 3 times. I spent into 6 figures on personal development, coaching, and certifications. I struggled with figuring out what I want to do with my life. I remarried.
It wasn’t always pretty and several times, it was sloppy and downright ugly. There were countless moments I’m not proud of.
But there have been beautiful moments I will remember forever.
It all had to happen for me to be the person I am today.
I have grown and developed a strength that I had always wanted, but never earned or appreciated the level of effort it would take to develop.
So I live each day with gratitude.
I don’t have a practical framework or tool to share this week.
I simply ask that you live life with full intention and presence.
Tell the person you love them. Or if there’s a toxic relationship, set the boundary.
Take the trip.
Express your authentic self.
Don’t hold back or be afraid of being too much.
Decide to live a life you are proud of.
It all starts with that decision. Please don’t wait .
With love,
